Square metre for square metre, glazing is the most profitable improvement you can make to a coastal home. It turns a balcony the wind makes unusable into a room you sit in during January, protects the furniture from sea salt, and adds an air gap that noticeably cuts street noise and heat loss.

Our main system is the glass curtain: 8 or 10 mm toughened panels that slide along top and bottom aluminium tracks and stack folded to one side, leaving the opening almost completely clear. There are no vertical posts between panels, so with the system closed the view runs uninterrupted. Each panel pivots on itself so you can clean both faces from inside — something you appreciate a great deal on a fourth floor.

When more thermal performance is needed — a porch you want to turn into a room, a glazed gallery you intend to heat — we build with thermally broken aluminium profiles and double glazing with a cavity and low-emissivity glass. For pergolas and porches we make fixed roofs in laminated solar-control glass that let light through while holding back radiation. Before quoting we always check whether your building's community or the town hall requires a licence or a standard enclosure design for the façade.

Frequently asked questions

Usually yes, because an enclosure alters the façade, which is communal property. Many coastal buildings have already approved a standard design — tell us which one and we build to match. In nearly every municipality you also need prior notification or a minor-works licence from the town hall.

It stops wind, rain and much of the noise, and raises the terrace temperature several degrees above outside. But it is not a sealed enclosure: between panels there is a brush seal, not an airtight gasket. If you want to turn the terrace into a heated room, the answer is thermally broken aluminium with double glazing, and we will tell you so plainly.

Around 6-7 cm per stacked panel. In a 4 m opening with five panels, the folded stack takes about 35 cm at one side. We calculate it exactly in the quote so you know where it lands.

Yes, that is the most common case. The bottom track fixes to the top of the parapet and the upper track to the soffit above. We only need the parapet to be flat and in sound condition.

It can be solved. We build angled enclosures, curved-track systems and panels of differing heights for sloping soffits. It is laser-measured and made piece by piece.
